Sea to Sky country is blessed with some of the best terrain for trail running anywhere in the world, and the location of the Sea to Sky Gondola is right in the middle of some exceptionally beautiful Coastal Mountain terrain. Big alpine vistas, deep forests, spectacular rocky perches, crystal mountain streams and more.
We'd also like to acknowledge and thank the Squamish Nation and the Tsleil-Waututh for their stewardship of these lands and for granting us permission to share them with you. The Sea to Sky Gondola, Adventure By Nature.
2016 Long Course Update: In 2014 the CMTS and STSG acquired the hardware to eventually construct a via ferrata route over the rock feature known as "the brain", which is just past the current long course out and back turnaround point. The permitting process to legally accomplish this is quite lengthy and we've been working towards this goal ever since. There is a strong likelihood that we will finally be able to complete this project in 2016, but there are zero guarantees of this. If not 2016 than certainly 2017 We will know by early summer exactly which course we'll be able to run this year and at that point in time you'll be able to change your entry without penalty if you so choose.
If we end up staying with the current long course race route we will add in the Shannon Basin Loop at the end, so regardless of the via ferrata the 2016 long course will be completely new. The distance of the current long course while returning via Shannon Basin is 23km and is displayed in the updated map below.
Please note that whether we are able to move forward with the via ferrata installation or not, the long course mandatory gear list remains unchanged and is fully laid out below.

*The 23km route is an incredibly challenging mountain run. There are ten questions during the registration process that you must answer yes to to be allowed to enter into the 23km distance. Here is a link to those questions pertaining to the 23km mountain run. You must be comfortable on class 2.5 mountain terrain.
*The 14km race is an incredibly scenic and still VERY challenging loop. You will encounter stream crossings, steep terrain and a few sections where you'll need to use ropes to assist you going both up and down, but check out this video of the views!
Both distances have a bit of a grunt off the start that will take you up the Al's Habrich Trail and onto the rock slab that presents the views above (shown in the video). The majority of the 14km route is very runnable and overall it is a good yet challenging introductory trail race.
